Jan Barber Biography

Barber is a 1976 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a 1992 graduate of the Paul M. Hebert School of Law at Louisiana State University.  Barber was an elementary school teacher for eleven years in the Louisiana Public School System prior to attending law school.

Barber’s practice focuses on workers’ compensation and personal injury claims. In 2001 she founded Barber Law Firm, a firm specializing in workers’ compensation, personal injury and employment matters.

Barber attributes her success in the legal field to her years as an educator and to her graduate level work toward a Masters in Vocational Rehabilitation.  Barber’s unique background combines with her legal education and experience to bring a specialized skill set to her workers’ compensation clients, something that other firms simply do not have.

Barber is the recipient of multiple awards and recognition for advocacy on behalf of Louisiana’s injured workers and has given countless hours of time to better inform our legislature of the critical issues facing Louisiana’s injured workers and their families.

Barber is licensed to practice law in Louisiana and is a member of multiple state and local bar associations, including the Louisiana Workers Advocates group, of which she is a charter member.

She places the needs of her clients and the ethics of her profession above all else.  She genuinely loves the practice of law and helping people.

Now fully retired, she remains of counsel to the firm.
